If I invest 11K in SIP for the next 15 years, how much will I get after 15 years?

3:59 AM

If I invest 11K in SIP for the next 15 years, how much will I get after 15 years?

Great question! Investing in a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is like planting a money tree. But, before we get too carried away with dreams of lounging under a tree that sprouts cash, let's dig into the details!

What is SIP, Anyway?

Think of a SIP as a disciplined way to invest in mutual funds. It’s like going to the gym regularly but for your wallet. Instead of dumping all your money in one go (and hoping for the best), you invest a fixed amount every month. In your case, that's ₹11,000 every month for the next 15 years.

How Much Will My ₹11,000 Turn Into?

Ah, the million-dollar question (or in this case, the 11,000-rupee question)! The answer depends on the rate of return. Mutual funds don't have a fixed return like a bank FD; they vary based on market conditions. However, for simplicity, let’s assume an average annual return rate of 12% (which is quite standard for equity mutual funds over the long term).

To calculate the future value of your SIP, we can use a formula. But don’t worry, I’m not going to throw a bunch of math at you without warning. I’ll break it down:

  • Monthly investment (P): ₹11,000
  • Rate of return (r): 12% annually or 1% monthly
  • Number of months (n): 15 years * 12 months = 180 months

The formula for the future value of a SIP is:

FV=P×(1+r)n−1r×(1+r)FV = P \times \frac{{(1 + r)^n - 1}}{r} \times (1 + r)FV=P×r(1+r)n−1×(1+r)

Plugging in the numbers:

FV=11,000×(1+0.01)180−10.01×(1+0.01)FV = 11,000 \times \frac{{(1 + 0.01)^{180} - 1}}{0.01} \times (1 + 0.01)FV=11,000×0.01(1+0.01)180−1×(1+0.01)

So, What's the Final Amount?

Drum roll, please... After crunching the numbers, you’ll have around ₹50-55 lakhs (that's 5 to 5.5 million for those who like their numbers in millions)!

Why Does Compounding Feel Like Magic?

Compounding is often called the "eighth wonder of the world" for a reason. It’s like that snowball effect; your returns start earning returns, and before you know it, your investment is rolling into a big pile of cash. The longer you stay invested, the more you benefit from compounding.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Stay Consistent: Just like you wouldn’t quit the gym after a few weeks (hopefully), don’t stop your SIP halfway. Consistency is key.
  • Market Fluctuations: The market will go up and down—sometimes like a rollercoaster. Don't panic. Stay the course!
  • Review Regularly: Keep an eye on your investments but don’t stress over daily market changes. An annual review is often enough.

So, Is Investing in SIP Worth It?

Absolutely! It’s a great way to build wealth over time, especially if you’re looking to avoid the stress of trying to time the market. Just set it, forget it, and watch your money grow!

Happy investing! And remember, the best time to start was yesterday. The second best time? Right

How to Get Started using a Password Manager?

3:50 AM

How to Get Started using a Password Manager?

The majority of people use very weak passwords and reuse them on different websites. How are you supposed to use strong, unique passwords on all the websites you use? The solution is a password manager.

Password managers store your login information for all the websites you use and help you log into them automatically. They encrypt your password database with a master password – the master password is the only one you have to remember.

Don’t Reuse Passwords!

Password reuse is a serious problem because of the many password leaks that occur each year, even on large websites. When your password leaks, malicious individuals have an email address, username, and password combination they can try on other websites. If you use the same login information everywhere, a leak at one website could give people access to all your accounts. If someone gains access to your email account in this way, they could use password-reset links to access other websites, like your online banking or PayPal account.

To prevent password leaks from being so damaging, you need to use unique passwords on every website. These should also be strong passwords – long, unpredictable passwords that contain numbers and symbols.

Web geeks have hundreds of accounts to keep track of, while even the average person likely has tens of different passwords. Remembering such strong passwords is nearly impossible without resorting to some sort of trick. The ideal trick is a password manager that generates secure, random passwords for you and remembers them so you don’t have to.

What Using a Password Manager is Like?

A password manager will take a load off your mind, freeing up brain power for doing productive things rather than remembering a long list of passwords.

When you use a password manager and need to log into a website, you will first visit that website normally. Instead of typing your password into the website, you type your master password into the password manager, which automatically fills the appropriate login information into the website. (If you’re already logged into your password manager, it will automatically fill the data for you). You don’t have to think about what email address, username, and password you used for the website – your password manager does the dirty work for you.

If you’re creating a new account, your password manager will offer to generate a secure random password for you, so you don’t have to think about that, either. It can also be configured to automatically fill information like your address, name, and email address into web forms.

Why Browser-Based Password Managers Aren’t Ideal
Web browsers – Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and others – all have integrated password managers. Each browser’s built-in password manager can’t compete with dedicated password managers. For one thing, Chrome and Internet Explorer store your passwords on your computer in an unencrypted form. People could access the password files on your computer and view them, unless you encrypt your computer’s hard drive.

Mozilla Firefox has a “master password” feature that allows you to encrypt your saved passwords with a single “master” password, storing them on your computer in an encrypted format. However, Firefox’s password manager isn’t the ideal solution, either. The interface doesn’t help you generate random passwords and it lacks various features, such as cross-platform syncing (Firefox can’t sync to iOS devices).

20-web-generate_strong_password-PC_png

Dashlane has a strong password generator built right in
A dedicated password manager will store your passwords in an encrypted form, help you generate secure random passwords, offer a more powerful interface, and allow you to easily access your passwords across all the different computers, smartphones, and tablets you use.

Password Managers to Use

Dashlane probably has the slickest interface of any password manager
A variety of password managers are available, but three stand out as the best options. Each is a solid option, and which you prefer will depend on what’s more important to you:

Dashlane: This password manager is a little newer, but what they lack in name recognition they make up for with great features and slick apps for almost every platform — Windows, OS X, iPhone, iPad, and Android. They have extensions for every browser, features like a security dashboard that analyzes your passwords, and they even have an automatic password changer that can change your passwords for you without having to deal with it yourself.

One of the best features of Dashlane is that it’s completely free to use on a single device. If you want to sync your passwords between devices, you’ll need to upgrade to premium. But you can test it out for free.

And when it comes to security, Dashlane has another advantage, because you have the choice to keep all of your passwords locally on your computer, rather than in a cloud. So you have the benefit of something like KeePass, but with a better interface. If you do choose to sync your passwords using the cloud, they are AES encrypted.

LastPass: This is a cloud-based password manager with extensions, mobile apps, and even desktop apps for all the browsers and operating systems you could want. It’s extremely powerful and even offers a variety of two-factor authentication options so you can ensure no one else can log into your password vault. We’ve covered LastPass’s many security options in great detail. LastPass stores your passwords on LastPass’s servers in an encrypted form – the LastPass extension or app locally decrypts and encrypts them when you log in, so LastPass couldn’t see your passwords if they wanted to. For more information about LastPass, read our guide to getting started with LastPass.

KeePass: LastPass isn’t for everyone. Some people just aren’t comfortable with a cloud-based password manager, and that’s fine. KeePass is a popular desktop application for managing your passwords, but there are also browser extensions and mobile apps for KeePass. KeePass stores your passwords on your computer so you remain in control of them — it’s even open-source, so you could audit its code if you wanted to. The downside is that you’re responsible for your passwords, and you’ll have to sync them between your devices manually. Some people use a syncing solution like Dropbox to sync the KeePass database between their devices. For more information, check out our introduction to KeePass.

Getting Started with Your Password Manager

The first big decision you will need to make with a password manager is choosing your master password. This master password controls access to your entire password manager database, so you should make it particularly strong – it’s the only password you’ll need to remember, after all. You may want to write down the password and store it somewhere safe after choosing it, just in case – for example, if you’re really serious, you could store your master password in a vault at the bank. You can change this password later, but only if you remember it – if you lose your master password, you won’t be able to view your saved passwords. This is essential, as it ensures no one else can view your secure password database without the master password.

After installing a password manager, you will likely want to start changing your website passwords to more secure ones. LastPass offers the LastPass Security Challenge, which identifies the weak and duplicate passwords you should focus on changing. Dashlane has a Security Dashboard built right in, that will help you figure out which passwords might need to be changed.

10-app-security_score-PC_PNG

Password managers also allow you to store other types of data in a secure form – everything from credit card numbers to secure notes. All data you store in a password manager is encrypted with your master password.

Password managers can even help against phishing, as they fill account information into websites based on their web address (URL). if you think you’re on your bank’s website and your password manager doesn’t automatically fill your login information, it’s possible that you’re on a phishing website with a different URL.

Quick Stress-Reducing Relaxing Yoga Poses

With so many yoga options available, I'm often asked which style is best. The answer is varied, but when it comes to unwinding the mind, stretching, and relaxing your nervous system, nothing beats a Yin Yoga sequence.

These five quick stress reducing postures will provide maximum benefit in a relatively short amount of time. In my new book, Yogalosophy For Inner Strength: 12 Weeks to Heal Your Heart and Embrace Joy, I provide numerous actions that will take you off the mat and move you through transitional times. Make sure to listen to your body while doing these, and if a pose doesn’t feel right, modify it.

If yoga doesn’t suit you at all, there are other ways to unwind, like taking magnesium, walking barefoot in nature, or listening to relaxing music.

Child's Pose (Balasana).

Sit on your knees on the floor, hips back on your heels. With feet together, draw your knees wide apart, fold forward, and place your forehead onto the mat. Your arms can be down by your sides with palms flipped upward, or outstretched in front of you with palms flat down on the mat. Allow your belly and breath to soften and fill the space. Feel your weight sinking down, breathe deeply, and allow your jaw to go slack as you bring your breath in to fill your entire back and ribs, all the way down to your kidneys. Settle here for 3 minutes.

Sphinx Pose.

Move onto your belly, placing your elbows beneath your shoulders. (Or if your back is tight, you may extend your palms farther forward to get a milder backbend — find what works for you.) Lift your chest so you’re in a mini backbend. Press your shoulders away from your ears, and let go. After about 90 seconds, lower your torso down and rest your head to one side.

Supported Shoulder Stand.

You'll need a yoga brick for a supported shoulder stand. Lie on your back with your knees bent and the soles of your feet on the floor, parallel to each other. Press your feet down to peel your spine off the mat, and slide the block underneath your lower back so that it’s supporting your sacrum, just underneath your tailbone. Play around with whatever position feels stable. From here, raise your legs in the air with bent knees. Once you feel stable, straighten them. Remain here for 3 minutes, allowing the blood flow to reverse from this supported position. Slowly lower down by bending your knees, then place your feet on the mat, pressing down to raise your hips up. Remove the block and then slowly, one vertebra at a time, lower down. Hug your knees and rock gently from side to side.

Reclining Twist.

Still in supine position, draw your right knee into your chest and extend your left leg along the floor. Extend your right arm out in line with your shoulder, palm facing up, and shift your hips slightly to the right. Place your left hand on the outside of your right knee and inhale deeply. As you exhale, drop your right knee over to the left and turn your head to the right. Try to keep both shoulder blades on the mat as you breathe. Remain here for 3 minutes and then switch sides, repeating on the opposite side.

Savasana

With legs extended and palms flipped upward, allow your feet to flop open to the sides and take a deep breath in. On the exhale, press your shoulders away from your ears and take up as much space with your breath as you can. This is your final resting pose; you can remain here anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes.

Surprising Physical Traits Men Look For In A Woman

                              WATCH THIS BEAUTIFUL VIDEO

If you ask a guy what he finds attractive in a woman, the answer will probably be something between ‘nice butt’ and ‘pretty face’. Although not many are so direct, most of them still believe that all these things are among the most important in a girl. It will come as a huge surprise to both men and women that things work differently on a subconscious level. While all the above-mentioned traits do draw guys to certain types of women, there’s a bunch of other characteristics that play a much more important role. Subconsciously, guys are all about childbearing abilities! Yes, you heard that right. The study at the University of Newcastle in England also revealed that such traits as kindness and agreeability play an important role as well because back in the day women were relied upon in forming various social alliances. So, here are 10 surprising physical traits guys look for in women.

High – pitched voices

It may shock many women that guys find high-pitched voices more attractive than deep husky ones. It happens so because high-pitched voices are associated with youth and high energy levels and are generally perceived as more feminine. Studies support that idea! It’s different for women who usually like men with deeper voices, which suggest bigger bodies and more strength.

Smile

Not only does smiling improve your mood, it also makes you look good. Men find smiling incredibly attractive on a subconscious level and are drawn to women who are not afraid to show that they are friendly and approachable. Smiling also indicates friendliness and agreeability, which is also attractive to men according to studies.

Less Makeup

Makeup gurus will be sad to hear this one. It appears that guys find makeup-less ladies much more attractive than those who are clad in makeup armor. A study from the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology revealed that both men and women find faces with less makeup more attractive. Women shouldn’t focus on makeup so much – they can let their true beauty shine as it is!

Huge eyes

Girls with big eyes apparently look more feminine and gentle than the rest of them women. Bigger eyes are also linked to longevity, health and reproductive potential. How, you might wonder? Bigger eyes signal of higher estrogen levels, which means that it’s easier for such women to conceive than for those with lower estrogen levels.

Symmetry

Symmetrical faces may not be very common, but guys find them more appealing than others. It has to do with beauty and good genes. And the better genes women have, the healthier babies they will have. It works as simple as that! Lopsidedness is associated with bad genes and poor health, which is not so attractive for men.

It’s not about the butts

We all know that guys prefer big butts, but what we don’t know is that it’s not big fat bottoms they find so attractive, but butts created by spinal curve instead of fat. Turkey’s Bilkent University has conducted an experiment during which men had to select from women with different spine curvature. It turned out that the most attractive females were those with a curvature of 45.5 degrees, which did make their butts appear bigger. Guys who think they like big bottoms may actually be into spines!

Average looks

It turns out that guys find ‘average-looking’ girls more attractive than the super gorgeous ones. Why that happens? The answer lies in evolutionary biology. Scientists have determined that average-looking women have a more diverse set of genes, which is a good thing when it comes to reproduction. Men feel this on a subconscious level and get drawn to average looks.

Scent

We’ve all heard about pheromones, but what we don’t know is how much they affect our choice of partner. Men basically ‘sniff out’ the most genetically compatible mate that can give them healthy babies. Apparently, pheromones give out all kind of information about us, including the state of out immune system and the fertility levels.

Red color

Not only animals use color red as a marker for mating – it appears humans do too! Guys are biologically wired to react to red color in a specific way, so if women want to draw guys’ attention, they should just wear red dresses (or lipstick, or shoes). Studies show that most men have no idea about this effect and that color red doesn’t affect women as it does men.

What will happen to your Body if you Consume Ginger Every Day?

Ginger is a flowering plant widely used as a spice and a folk medicine. Ginger is listed as an herb in many culinary recipes while others classify it as a spice. Some call dried ginger powder a spice while calling the fresh root version an herb. Ginger is one of those seasonings that adds something special to anything it’s in. Whether ginger is the dominant flavor, like in gingerbread, or whether it serves as that intriguing hint of spice in a stir fry or stew, it offers a nice combination of sweet and spicy that pleases the palate. But surely something that good must be used in moderation, right? Daily consumption of ginger offers all sorts of health benefits. Gger will have following effects.

1. Less Painful and Frequent Headaches.

A regular headache can really ruin your day, but a migraine can all but incapacitate you. Beyond agonizing pain, migraines can also cause light sensitivity as well as nausea and vomiting. The more than 200 substances in ginger work together to provide anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, and antihistamine effects which appear to help relieve intense migraine symptoms.

More study is necessary, but early results seem to show that ginger is at least as effective as other commonly prescribed migraine medicines, but without many of the side effects.

2. Anti-inflammatory properties.

Another way that ginger’s anti-inflammatory effects can help relates to your joints. Swollen joints limit range of motion and cause intense, chronic pain. The substance in ginger that researchers think reduces inflammation is called gingerol, and it is present in large quantities in the root.
Certain studies have also found that ginger is as effective as ibuprofen in reducing joint pain. In fact, researchers determined in 2015 that osteoarthritis sufferers could even relieve pain topically by applying a cream or ointment that contains ginger.

3. Manage Acid Reflux.

Acid reflux, otherwise known as heartburn, is a painful condition that may have you reaching for an over-the-counter medication to relieve your symptoms. Next time, head to the produce section instead. Some of the active substances in ginger are used in heartburn medicines because of ginger’s anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea capabilities. Taking some ginger when you experience acid reflux will manage the symptoms, but evidence also shows that regular ginger consumption can reduce the chance of episodes occurring at all.

4. Improved skin

Ginger may also be great for your skin, but you don’t necessarily have to apply it topically to see the results. The fact that ginger is so good for digestion has a corollary effect on how your skin looks, because food that sits in the digestive system for too long can create toxic byproducts that manifest in problems like psoriasis, eczema, and acne.

Ginger helps on the inside to promote digestion, but can also contribute to clear, smooth skin when it exits your body via perspiration. Ginger may also serve as an antiseptic for small cuts or abrasions.

5. Beat the Cancer Odds

There is significant hesitation among doctors to recommend holistic or homeopathic treatment for cancer, but doctors at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center have reported the finding that ginger is a powerful weapon against cancer cells.

More research is needed, but don’t wait until you have cancer to start using ginger. We know that it reduces colon and intestinal inflammation, and thereby reduces your risk for developing digestive cancers.

6. Improved Digestion.

Ginger helps improve digestion in several ways. It is good at settling an upset stomach, which is why many pregnant women use it to combat morning sickness. Ginger also helps relax cramped intestines, particularly good for sufferers of IBS. It also rids the digestive system of embarrassing gas!

If you need yet another reason to eat ginger for your digestive health, it boosts your body’s ability to absorb the nutrients from your meals, leading to better overall health.

7. Weight loss

Adding ginger to your daily diet may also make it easier to lose weight. It helps enhance calorie burn and drive your body’s metabolism so that food is digested fully between meals. We also know that it plays a role in fat burning, carbohydrate digestion, and insulin secretion, all vital processes involved in how much fat stays stored in the body.

Ginger is also thought to help keep you full longer so that you can resist those snack cravings.

8. Control blood sugar

Diabetes diagnoses are skyrocketing, thanks to the sugar-laden diet many of us consume without even realizing it. Sugar is hidden in massive quantities in lots of packaged foods, even things you wouldn’t expect. That’s another good reason to add some ginger to your diet every day. A recent study of people with type 2 diabetes showed that just 2 grams of ginger powder per day lowered their fasting blood sugar levels by 12%.

Another positive side effect of stabilized blood sugar is a reduction in the risk for heart disease. This is just the beginning of the scientific exploration into the connection between ginger and diabetes, but it stands to reason that ginger can help to regular blood sugar in all people, not just diabetics.

9. Fight infection.

Not only great for daily use, ginger can give you a boost when you are at risk of infection from an illness or injury. Gingerol lowers the risk of infections and can inhibit the growth of several types of bacteria. It has been shown to be particularly effective against inflammatory gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis. Respiratory infections like RSV are also no match for the infection-fighting power of ginger. Daily use of ginger can help to strengthen your immunity against those bugs that get passed around the office or classroom.

Now that you know how beneficial ginger is to your overall health, you may be wondering how to get more of it into your diet. The great news is that ginger is highly adaptable. Peel it first, then grate, slice, dice, or shave it for use in all sorts of recipes, both savory and sweet. It may also be eaten raw or steeped in hot water to make a tea.

Ways that Smartphones are being used as Medical Devices

9 ways  Uses of smartphones as medical devices

Ways that Smartphones are being used as Medical Devices

Smartphones are quickly gaining the capabilities to make patients’ homes an extension of physicians’ offices, facilitating access to timely medical care. Technological advancements in the phones are enabling them to take higher-resolution photos and deliver better sound quality, suggests Christy Marks-Davis, senior director of marketing for CareCentrix, a company that works with providers and payers to support care of patients in their homes.

Medical device manufacturers and software engineers continue to take advantage of smartphones’ capabilities, adapting them to serve as diagnostic tools that patients and caregivers can use in the home. Clinicians also are beginning to use them in their practices.

Here’s a list of some of the current capabilities used to expand the clinical usefulness of smartphones, building off a blog by Marks-Davis and including other capabilities being tested in the industry.

Stethoscope

Stethoscope1.jpgThe stethoscope enables amplification of breath and heart sounds that provides insights into lung and heart function. Smartphones now enhance the power of the stethoscope—patients and many doctors use smartphone-based amplifying devices to replace the earpieces from the traditional stethoscope, enabling patient engagement and a more informed patient-physician dialogue. Beyond that, a new application can interpret breath sounds and coughs in combination with other symptoms that the patient enters, returning results that can indicate the likelihood that a person has various respiratory conditions. The application, ResApp, uses the smartphone’s microphone, and is particularly effective at diagnosing asthma and pneumonia.

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

Electrocardiogram1.jpgMost ECG machines are consoles about the size of a laptop computer, attached to as many as 12 wires that are then attached to a patient’s body. Today, crude ECG recordings can be taken by smart watches; there’s a variety of opinion about the accuracy and clinical effectiveness of these recordings. Even better ECG recordings can be taken with smartphone apps connected to as few as four leads that most anyone can be taught to attach. Other new systems include devices the size of a business card that the users can touch with their fingers to get an ECG reading that connects wirelessly to a smartphone.

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

EEG Device-CROP.jpgElectroencephalogram devices measure the electrical activity of the brain. They are used for a variety of purposes, including diagnosing and monitoring patients with epilepsy. Traditionally, epilepsy patients have had to travel to EEG centers, where they are fitted with several leads that are glued to their scalp. But with smartphone technology, it’s possible for patients to monitor themselves at home and transmit the data to their neurologist. A proof-of-concept study in Nature.com determined that this innovation could soon make EEG technology available to millions of epilepsy sufferers who have limited access to EEG centers.

The Otoscope

cellscope.jpgEvery pediatrician has an otoscope for looking in children’s ears, generally to diagnose ear infections. This capability, called pneumatic otoscopy, requires some skill to learn. However, the most significant limitation of the technique is the otoscope itself, which very often provides the practitioner with only the most fleeting glimpse of a child’s tiny eardrum.

The cameras on smartphones now provide such high resolution under limited light conditions that a simple attachment provides high-resolution magnified views, giving doctors—and now parents—the ability to capture images of the ear drum, which can be sent to a doctor.

The Ophthalmoscope

promo_carousel_iExam1_mobile.jpgSpecialized attachments and associated applications have turned smartphones into devices that produce images almost as good as those available in eye doctors’ offices. The technology may not become available to the general public, however, because these examinations often require the use of pupil-dilating eye drops, which are used only in office settings. Simpler devices, however, are able to perform visual acuity exams, alerting patients when their eyeglass prescriptions become outdated.

Imaging

Butterfly-Network-CROP.jpgVendors are beginning to look for ways that smartphones could enable clinicians to quickly and inexpensively gain insight into patients through imaging. For example, Butterfly Network, a rising medical imaging company, is making a pocket-sized ultrasound device that plugs into an iPhone. The medical imaging firm began selling its first product, called the iQ. Priced at significantly less than conventional ultrasound imaging machines—it could make the scans vastly more accessible.

In another example, a novel way to locate “regions of interest” in dermoscopy images can improve the detection of skin lesions, through the use of an app on a consumer mobile device, enabling real time identification and diagnosis of cancer and other skin conditions, according to new research reported in arXiv.org, part of the Cornell University Library. The approach uses an attachment to a smartphone that improves its ability to image skin lesions.

Patient Monitoring

Livongo patient monitor app1.jpgThrough the use of apps and attachments, smartphones also can better inform patients who need to continually monitor their conditions. For example, in one study, patients with diabetes and uncontrolled hypertension who used a smartphone app were able to significantly reduce their blood pressure within six weeks.

The pilot study was funded by vendor Livongo, the maker of the app that remotely monitors blood pressure, provides recommendations on healthy choices and connects users with a health coach. The study showed that participants’ systolic blood pressure declined by an average of 5.4 mm Hg and diastolic pressure declined by 3.5 mm Hg on average.

Communication Aid with Device Manufacturers

Mycarelink1.pngSmartphones also have the capability to monitor the performance of medical devices being used to aid patients. For example, Medtronic is marketing a mobile app for patients with pacemakers that communicates with patients’ smartphones and tablet devices. The MyCareLink Heart app securely sends device data to the Medtronic CareLink network, which can eliminate the need for remote monitoring hardware, according to the vendor, which manufactures biomedical engineering devices and technology.

The Caveats

Some physicians have voiced concerns about diagnostic devices being used in patients’ homes. Expertise and judgment are required when interpreting any medical test. Nevertheless, no one expects smartphone-based devices to completely replace the physician. Only trained cardiologists can read ECGs, and only trained neurologists can read EEGs. For other devices, physicians can and should actively participate in guiding the patient through the diagnostic and therapeutic process. Skilled nurses can help patients use these devices in ways that can greatly increase their accuracy. Still, there’s a risk that patients might take too much medical care into their own hands, increasing the need to offer close provider-patient interaction in their use.
